Woody’s May 2026 Water Mission Trip

Through Living Waters for the World, ChristChurch Presbyterian recently participated in upgrading a clean water system in Quintana Roo, Yucatán, Mexico — a mission rooted not only in engineering and infrastructure, but in compassion, partnership, and the belief that clean water is a gift every person deserves. The project focused on upgrading an existing reverse osmosis water purification system originally installed sixteen years ago at Iglesia Nacional Presbiteriana in the small rural community of Quintana Roo, located approximately 120 miles southwest of Cancun. For the team serving there, this was more than maintaining equipment; it was renewing a long-standing relationship with a community that continues to depend on this ministry for safe drinking water and improved health. ChristChurch is part of the Living Waters World–Southwest Houston Group, a partnership that includes the Bellaire Southwest Houston Rotary Club, St. Philip Presbyterian Church, and St. John’s Presbyterian Church. Together, the group works alongside local operating partners to provide sustainable access to clean drinking water in communities where waterborne illness remains a daily threat. In the Yucatán, untreated water is often contaminated with bacteria and high mineral content, making safe drinking water difficult to obtain. Through the reverse osmosis system, water is purified under high pressure, removing harmful contaminants and producing water that is safe for families to drink. Five-gallon jugs are filled at the water plant and sold at an affordable cost so that even the most vulnerable residents have access to clean water. But the impact goes far beyond the water itself. Every system installed or upgraded represents healthier children, fewer preventable illnesses, and peace of mind for parents who no longer have to wonder whether the water their family drinks will make them sick. It also reflects the power of relationships — churches, volunteers, and local leaders working together across borders and languages to serve neighbors they may never have otherwise met. ChristChurch Presbyterian was the first church in the Houston area to begin this initiative in 2006. Over the years, that vision has grown through partnerships with St. John’s Presbyterian, St. Philip Presbyterian, and the Bellaire Southwest Houston Rotary Club. Together, the Living Waters World–Southwest Houston Group continues to help communities build sustainable, locally operated clean water ministries that offer both physical health and a tangible expression of hope. For those who traveled to Quintana Roo, the trip was a reminder that missions are not only about what we bring, but about the relationships we build, the faith we share, and the ways God uses ordinary acts of service to transform lives — including our own.
